Kiawah Triathlon October Event

For October, the Ashley Ridge AFJROTC Unit continues their mission of serving our community. One recent event supported the Kiawah Island Triathlon--an annual race with approximately 500 highly motivated competitors. Racers are challenged to complete a 3/4-mile swim, 25-mile bike ride, and 5 1/2-mile run. Our cadets assisted by setting up various stations around the course. We supported five different roles: the wetsuit changeout station, numerous water stations, bike transitions, and post-race chip collection and handing out cold cloths.  Cadets encouraged and spurred racers at every station.  Each station is important to the race and for the competitors.  Chip collectors retrieve the GPS tracker used to validate race times and course compliance, essential for identifying placement times.  Cadets at the changeout and transition stations are key to help racers move quickly from event to event.  Also, since the weather for the race was fantastic, our water stations were key to help racers during and after this grueling event.   Spirits and volunteerism are always high for cadets supporting the annual Kiawah Triathlon and cadets are inspired and motivated by the diverse group of competitors.  Each cadet that volunteered did an exceptional job with their different stations to ensure the event went very smoothly.
